The first stop on your full-day tour is the city of Toledo, a World Heritage Site that’s located just 70 kilometers from Madrid. Toledo is one of the oldest cities in Europe and boasts splendid buildings from most every historical period, including the Arabian, Gothic, Mudejar, Renaissance, and Baroque. It is known as the City of the Three Cultures, as Christians, Muslims, and Jews have all lived together here. The itinerary includes visits to the Mosque of El Cristo de la Luz and the old Bib-al-Mardum, also know as Valmardón, a true reflection of Caliphate architecture. Your guide will take you on a tour of the cathedral’s interior. You’ll see the various stages of development of the Spanish Gothic style, and admire a variety of works of art as well, including stained glass windows, the altarpieces, and paintings by El Greco. You’ll also visit the Church of Santo Tomé, where you’ll see El Greco’s masterpiece, El Entierro del Señor de Orgaz. Visit the Synagogue of Santa María la Blanca and take in panoramic views of Toledo. Leave Toledo at around 14:30 for the return trip to Madrid. Along the way you’ll stop in Bargas, home to the Finca Loranque. Visit the wine cellar and taste some of the fine wines produced here.
