Discover the real Italy on a full-day tour from Rome, traveling through medieval villages such as Spoleto (the ancient capital of the “Ducato Longobardo”), Trevi, and Spello en route to Assisi. Upon arrival in Assisi at approximately 11:00, you are free to explore on your own and at your own pace. Visit the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli, home to the Porziuncola Chapel, and the site where St. Francis of Assisi died in 1226. Walk the narrow streets to the Church of Santa Chiara, where St. Francis was born. See the house where he spent the first years of his life, before going to Piazza del Comune (Town Hall Square) to see the Palazzo del Popolo (People’s Palace) and Roman Temple to Minerva. Head to the old city walls to go inside the Basilica di San Francesco, and marvel at the stunning frescoes of the 12th and 13th centuries. Find an authentic café for a quick coffee, before heading back to Rome at around 20:30.
