Discover a labyrinth of hidden buildings, abandoned churches, temples and tombs beneath the streets of Rome on a 2.5-hour guided small group tour. Meet your guide in front of the Church of St. Clement, and admire a jewel of medieval architecture, built in the 12th century. After a short tour of the current day church, follow your guide to the 1st underground level to find an older church, built around 1,600 years ago. See ancient frescoes that tell the story of the early Christian martyrs and how they met in secret to worship Christ and avoid persecution. Descend to the 2nd underground level to discover an ancient temple dedicated to the Indic god Mitra. Marvel at how perfectly preserved it still is after 17 centuries. See the remains of a house from Ancient Rome, and explore the storerooms of a huge warehouse of the Roman Republic. Discover a water spring that dates back to the Roman Empire. Depart St. Clement's and stroll over to the Church of St. John and Paul (2 martyrs killed during the Roman persecutions). Located in one of the most beautiful and peaceful areas of the city center, the church was built on ancient structures, including 3 different Roman houses dating as far back as 1,800 years ago. Experience the daily life of ancient families, from the wealthy classes to the poor traders. See hidden baths, wine cellars, mosaics and a spectacular fountain covered with beautiful frescoes.
